Sea of Cortez / Midriff Islands Fishing Tours

The Erik

The area we refer to as the "Midriff" consists of many islands as well as the Baja coastline and is 200 to 250 miles south of San Felipe. What this means to you is being surrounded literally by millions of fish. Being a natural migration route for Yellowtail, expect the action to be hot! You’ll see why they call it "Yellowtail Alley".

Be prepared for more. You’ll fish all the major islands, including Isla Partida, Angel de La Guardia, Raza, Salsipuedes, Las Animas, San Lorenzo, San Esteban and San Pedro Martir. The fishing starts in May with Giant Black Sea Bass ready to do battle as well as plenty of White Sea Bass. The Cabrilla, Giant Squid, Red Snapper and Pargo can keep you busy all day and, of course, lots of Yellowtail. As the season progresses through October we find Dorado, Grouper over 100 pounds, Pinto Bass, Halibut, Roosterfish, Sailfish, Amberjack, Marlin and plenty of Yellowtail.

Trips depart San Felipe on Saturdays at approximately 10am. It takes about 16 hours to reach the fishing grounds where the pangas are lifted from the deck to begin your fishing adventure. These 6 day trips are designed to give you 4 1/2 days of actual fishing time. Two or three anglers and a guide per panga fish each day according to their own schedule. Naps, beach combing, diving or sun up to sun down fishing are the order of the day. The boat returns to San Felipe at approximately 6pm on Thursday where your fish will be packed in your ice chests for your trip home.

WHAT TO BRING TO SAN FELIPE

Though the weather is usually dry and warm (even hot in mid-summer), early and late season trips can be cool, so plan accordingly. A few "musts" are:

Sun protective clothing, tennis shoes, wide brimmed hat, windbreaker, swim trunks, polarized sun glasses, sunscreen, chapstick, insect repellent, bath towel and washcloth, sleeping bag and pillow, bottle opener and a camera. Bring your mask & snorkel for a refreshing mid-day swim. Don’t forget your ice chests!
