Cedros/San Benitos Accommodations & ItineraryWhat to Expect The accomodations will be in the Zam-Mar Hotel or Cedros Guest House (photos below).
We fish on 22' - 24' open pangas with licensed, highly experienced, local fisherman. We will put 3 people max per panga, or you may request 2/panga if you prefer. Outings are from four to six hours, starting early (around 6 am). We will be back in town to take meals at around noon, and get back to fishing. We will provide take-out lunch at some of the camps (north or west of Cedros or Sen Benitos) when our fishing grounds are far from town. The meals are prepared in the two restaurants on the island (photo of La Pacenita below). Food is fresh and prepared in the local style - lots of fresh seafood! They can also cook your catch if you want.
Your guides will be Jose Angel Sanchez and Rafael Arce. Jose Angel is a marine biologist who has been instrumental in conservation in the Baja California peninsula for more than 20 years. He is involved in eco-tourism as a means of strengthening local economy while promoting conservation. Rafael is a native of Cedros Island, and a member of the family that ran the lighthouse for many years in Benitos Island. Rafael continues to be involved in exporting local abalone and lobster, and has a comprehensive knowledge of these islands and their inhabitants. To fly you to the island, we are using a Cessna Grand Caravan that offers commercial service (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) to the island of Cedros and the town of Guerrero Negro. The flight lasts about two hours each way.
If you want to bring fish back, we will fillet and freeze your catch in ziplock bags for transport. However, further preparation before cooking and/or long-term storage may be necessary once you get home. You do not need to bring your cooler to the island; we will keep your fish in a freezer until your return. If you want to bring your cooler it must be no taller than 14 inches. After the first 50 lbs of luggage and fish, each additional pound will cost $1.00 (these planes have an external cargo pod for extra capacity). The plane leaves Ensenada to Cedros around 9:30-10:00 AM, and arrives at 12:00-12:30 PM. We will meet your group in San Ysidro at around 7 am. On the return flight the plane from Cedros to Ensenada leaves around 11:00 AM and arrives in Ensenada around 1:30 PM. However, these times may vary greatly. Please note that the Mexico-US border crossing time is impossible to predict with complete accuracy. Schedule Here is a very general outline, for reference only. Arrival and departure times are subject to weather and travel conditions and can vary (This is Baja!). DAY 1
